Penaeus monodon, P. indicus and Litopenaeus vannamei are the important species of shrimps cultured using RAS technology. Among the three species, Vannamei shrimp, L. vannamei, commonly known as Pacific white shrimp or white leg shrimp, is a globally significant aquaculture species valued for the fast growth, adaptability and high market demand.
